New Moon in Gemini

Sunday May 24, 2009

5:11 AM PDT

The Sun and the Moon are currently in the Sign of the Twins, Gemini. Cogito Ergo Sum translates: "I think, therefore I am",  which was coined by the French philosopher Renee Descartes. Gemini, being an Air Sign, is a Creative Thinker or Genius. The New Moon is a great time to continue the journey toward the within. Our thoughts may turn inward, only to move outward, as we will want to communicate with others. Alot of Gemini types appear to have their head in the clouds...up to where they belong. However, it is important for Gemini to allow their feelings to be experienced in the heart, rather than the head. The heart hath its reason, which reason knows nothing of ~Blaise Pascal. Mercury, the Winged Messenger, ruler of Gemini is busy playing tricks with our sense of security in the Sign Taurus (Money, Possessions, Security, ). Think about what true security means. We may traverse down memory lane and want to complete any unfinished business both personal and professional.

Mercury is also in Retrograde. This can be a time when communication seems to be lost in translation, as the trickster plays all sorts of games with our mental and material devices. Some people notice that their communication gadgets have a gremlin or two wreaking havoc and in need of repair. This lasts for approximately three weeks, so the important thing to remember is this too, shall pass. Be careful when signing any important documents and to read between the lines or the two lateral poles. Oftentimes, persons from our past can make an appearance during this retrograde phase. Mercury goes Direct in a few days.

Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children's game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person's ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context. Be mindful before speaking. In other words, put your mouth in gear before you speak (unless there is room in it for your foot).

Media has become overloaded and our minds downloaded with alot of negativity being reported in the news. There is just too much information at our disposal. This is a great time to turn off the TV and tune in to the transmission of the planet and all our relations on an organic level. We are the center of our universe. Everything we think and do has an impact upon ourselves and our immediate surroundings. If we are restless and require distraction, then perhaps we could learn to mediatate while practising deep breathing. Gemini is associated with the lungs and nervous system. Think of ways to create Positive Action, then breathe life into it. Yes, the universe exists with both positive and negative energy. We need to bring any opposing forces together through integration.

A world in black and white, hath no colour. The Light Spectrum refuses no colour. How would we know day without night? Get outside and bear witness to the beauty that nature paints for us in every moment. As Albert Einstein said: Imagination is far greater than knowledge. Dare to be different. When you change your perception, you transform your world. Remember to respect that other people's Way may differ from your own. Same planet, different worlds.

There are many myths about Mercury/Hermes, the Ancient Messenger God, who was also known as the Patron of both Merchants and Theives, as well as surfers and skateboarders in modern time.. Thoughts and ideas can travel fast like quicksilver in the archetype of the Gemini Genius. I suggest reading about his myth, and also the story of his counterparts; the Egyptian Thoth and Norse Loki.

This is the New Moon to begin a journal. Alot of people use journals for calendars, appointments and goals. Forget the attitude and think gratitude. Start focusing on the wins, rather than the losses in your life. Whatever you do, try to do it with an open mind and an open heart.

Ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney

Ebony and Ivory
Live together in perfect harmony
Side by side on my piano
Oh Lord, why don't we ?

We all know that people are the same
wherever you go
There's good and bad in everyone
We learn to live, we learn to give each other
What we need to survive...

In Memory of Ebony...our loving companion for 16 years.

Full Moon in Scorpio

May 8, 2009
9:00 pm  PDT

The Sun and Moon in their perpetual movement have danced apart and are now facing one another like the Matador waving a red cloth of passion, desire and even anger, taunting the Bull with lust, impatience and potential death. A ritual is thus performed between opposing forces that seek to defeat the other, rather than meeting upon common ground.  The Sun (the Core of our Being) in Taurus, like Ferdinand, again needs to smell all the flowers of spring, rather than being deceived by the Matador beneath the Full Moon (our Mood, Feeling)  in Scorpio.

Scorpio can be intense, secretive, sexual, powerful, mysterious and destructive. In the Full Moon light we can deconstruct some of the darker myths and transform them into more positive ones.  This is the night to dare to reveal your darkest secrets to those you can trust, above all, your own conscience.  When we carry our so-called secrets that can sting us like a scorpion with guilt and shame...we begin to blame and project our negative energies like a snake filled with venom.  We can become as sick as our secrets. So this is the Full Moon to shed that old skin of resentment and be reborn like the Phoenix from its ashes.

The Moon affects the tides of our personal emotions.  The ebb and flow of all energy.  We live in an era where deception and destruction seem to be projected into our minds by the constant bombardment of controlled media.  Who do we trust?  Inscribed on certain coins are the words: In God We Trust. A penny for your thoughts? Your thoughts must be free from the smokescreens of trickery imposed upon you by others who want power and control.  Death may destroy the body, but it does not destroy the soul.  So we must be like soul detectives and seek to find and expose those dark demons inside each and every one of us. Where there is absence of Love, there is Fear.  Why do some people fear the dark?  Use the Light of the Full Moon to illuminate those dark areas that you may fear to tread.

Scorpio is a water sign, however, in the dead of winter it can appear to be as cold, hard and distant as the icy orb Pluto. The Sun in Taurus melts the ice into rivers that eventually lead to the ocean. Now in Spring, the last frost of winter can melt away into streams of conscious transformation and self-empowerment. The Snow Queen (Scorpio) of Winter becomes the May Queen (Taurus) of Spring.  So the Rites of Spring are celebrated on May Day or Beltane to usher in fertility and abundance in the merry month of May.  The Maypole is a fertility symbol used to fructify the soil of Mother Earth.  People dance around the pole with coloured ribbons, harmoniously weaving opposing energies into a union of masculine and feminine, like two snakes coil around the staff of Hermes (Caduceus: the Emblem used by the Medical Profession).  People can also join in sexual union to honour the act that procreates life as well as pleasure and harmony.

The Full Moon in Scorpio would be a great opportunity to explore our sexuality and to celebrate our being sexy in a very unique way. Dare to be different.  Channel this restless energy into a more sensual experience with others as well as ourselves.  Sex and Spirit are connected although they have been severed by powers that would divide and conquer us as individuals.  Gather with friends and play a fun game like Clue, Truth Or Dare, or plan a Mystery Solving evening. Lovers could engage in fantasy play.

Remember, Scorpio can be symbolic like the lower natured Scorpion or Snake within us, but it also contains the higher archetypes of both the Phoenix and the Eagle.  The Phoenix transforms but the Eagle soars high and flies closest to the Sun.
