The Gift

Gifts

Beneath The Wrappings...

As children awake on Hannukah, Yule, Solstice, Christmas, Kwanza or any of the Holy-day mornings...they seem to vibrate with such wonderous anticipation...and as they anxiously open their gifts...we notice the light that sparkles in their eyes......seriously...we are all gifts of the Universe...a myriad of shapes, sizes and colours...some decorated moreso than others...but how beautiful it is when we discover the gift within each one.

As an adult, we can learn much from the joy that emanates from the children during these Holy-days. Perhaps we can remember to forget about the wrappings and look for that special gift inside each and every one of us...

Bright Blissings!...Ric

Full Moon in Gemini

Full Moon in Gemini
December 12, 2008

The Sun is currently in Sagitarius igniting the Holy-day Season by marking the beginning of the many Festival of Lights honoured during the darkest days of the year. The Full Moon in Gemini is facing the Sun with all of its luminous beauty. This combination can make our Spirits Bright.

A vast majority of religions celebrate the Birth of the Light during this moonth. It is an affirmation and dedication to the many Beings of Light who have been Spiritual Torch Bearers throughout the millenia.

Jupiter rules Sagitarius helping to expand our faith in the true meaning of the holy-days. People travel short and long distances to be with family and loved ones. To come together and share in the Feast of Abundance to nestle with another in the warmth and comfort of the hearth and home.

The Full Moon in Gemini can also make us more restless as we prepare for all of the many festivities that are celebrated during this time. Office parties are being held and would be a great time to let loose and just be who we are as opposed to what we think we are. We may think we know it all, only to discover that we are pulling the wool over our own eyes when we could be knitting that wool into a sweater that we could gift to someone else. It is a beneficial time to share ideas or new concepts with friends and colleagues as it is the Social Networking Moon.

Communication is also a key component of Gemini and this is a time to get those letters and cards off to loved ones to make it safely through the hustle and bustle of the season. Take the time to enjoy sharing stories and the fondest of memories. No one wants to be alone during this time. Turn off the TV and attend a Holy-day concert or one of the many Festival of Light Celebrations talking over a cup of warm holy-day cheer with others.

This would be a great moon to be inspired with gift giving ideas. It isn't all about overspending and stressing out in the consumption of too many needless things, only to end up feeling exhausted and resentful for having endured the long line ups and expensive purchases. Think expansive rather than expensive. Too much of something can end up being a whole lot of nothing. We have many gifts that we can create and share with others.

Sometimes the Social Gemini Moon can attract gossip and create needless misunderstandings. Make an effort to communicate effectively and to listen to others. Remember the children's game Whispering Down The Lane? You whisper something into one person's ear that is passed on to the next person and by the time it reaches the end of the line it has become totally out of context.

We are all gifts of the Cosmos wrapped and adorned in a myriad of colourful expression; some more decorated than others. However, it is what is inside that is the actual gift.

If you can purchase a live Tree for the holy-days you will be able to return the gift to Mother Earth for others to enjoy.

Finally, let us be as the Three Magi and keep our eyes upon the North Star and the hope that it symbolises. The gifts of Light, Life and Love are to be cherished.

So, eat, drink and be merry! Take care of each other and journey safely! Most of all, enjoy the Magic of the Season...and may the Unicorn and the Lion lay down together in peace...

New Moon in Capricorn

New Moon in Capricorn

December 27, 2008 PST

Now that the Sun and Moon are both in Capricorn (joined by Mercury,Jupiter and Pluto) it is time to get serious. Some of us may feel more depressed during this time of the year, especially after all the fun and expansiveness of Sagitarius holy-day revelry. Saturn is associated with Capricorn (Dharma, Limitations, Authourity and Time) it is the planet that says: get a grip! The rings around this planet are like a belt that needs to be tightened so we don't wind up with our pants down...so to speak. This is the last planet visible to the naked eye and is symbolic of the naked truth of the self-imposed restrictions and limitations that can sometimes hold us back from pursuing our goals. In Ancient Rome, people celebrated the Saturnalia (our modern day New Years) and as the sands of the old calendar year pass through the hour glass of time, we begin to start anew by making resolutions or goals (think Discipline). It doesn't neccessarily matter that we attain every goal set, as long as we strive to do our personal best. It is the Capricorn nature that inhibits itself due to lack of confidence even though it is born to achieve.

The New Moon is a time to initiate a change for the better and to establish some new boundaries in both our personal and professional lives. It is a good time to create a budget that will keep us within our means. It is easy to forget the abundance that some have while others have to struggle. Too much of something can be a whole lot of nothing. Perhaps we can share the gifts that were presented to us (that we have no use for) to those who could really use it. Remember that we are meant to slow down during the cold, dark of winter. A time to gather indoors near the hearth to cook and to keep warm.

There are two kinds of Mountain Goats: one takes it time grazing on a plateau, while the other strives to climb that steep hill unable to keep still. Neither is right or wrong, so there is no need to get someone elses' goat, only to wind up locking horns of indifference. Nor is it the time to be butting our heads into other people's personal pilgramige. There can be a need to control out of fear. The half human/half goat Pan may sound his horn and cause us to panic. Take the time to slow down and prepare for the coming Spring. Oftentimes, grounded (Capricorn is an Earth Sign) and laid back people are considered lazy in our fast paced culture. It is easy to scapegoat others when we are unable to face our own mistakes or shortcomings. All those Capricorn Saviour deities seemed to agree on one concept: Be Still and you shall eventually find rest and peace. If you need to rush ahead of the herd, then at least be mindful of the pace of others who are unable to keep up with yours.

Although Capricorn energy can be slow yet steady on the pathway to success, sometimes the outlook can be pessimistic and inhibited. Responsibility is the ability to respond with practicality. Capricorns also can be prone to being despondent and yet their offbeat sense of humour can remedy this. It is said that Capricorns are old when young, and young when old. The newborn child (puer) and the old man (senex) are symbols of the New Year replacing the Old Year.

So, whether you are an over-achiever, an under-achiever or simply an achiever, be kind to those you pass on the way up the hill because you may end up passing them again on the way down.
As the song goes: ...ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no valley low enough...we can see the vast horizon on the mountaintop or the majesty of the mountain from the valley below. Yo!
